Another cool view showing the huge dam that borders the pool. Notice the spillway in the center. Dam and pool were built in 1924, and has never spilled over. At that time it was billed as the worlds largest concrete pool and largest hollow dam in america. There is a road across the top of the dam but its been closed since 1970.The pool water was not filtered or chlorinated back then, so you can imagine how dirty it had to get at times. I was told by my grandfather that they flushed it out with lake water from time to time. The depth ranged from 2 ft at the bottom of the spillway to over 20 ft at the deep end. The lifeguard sat atop the A-Frame contraption in the center of the photo with a water wheel in front of that, and a regular swing set sat behind it. At the lower left of the spillway was the 6000 sq. ft. kiddie pool. The pool overall measured 200ft X 800ft. Definately a one-of-a-kind pool and location. Just imagine how modern technology could transform this pool into something really great. That thought will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope some of you will keep it in yours as well. Thanks for viewing!
